Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor who has been featured in films and television in addition to on stage, is most well-known for playing Teri Joseph, the fiery attorney in Showtime's Soul Food. After her marriage she became Nikki Kodjoe. While growing up living in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always fascinated by acting. In the Maryland high school competition during her first years of education she received the award for the best actress. Following her time in acting and in "The Washington Ballet Company" She was awarded an acting degree at the New York University. Contractor, a Mumbai-born Indian and who was a resident of Nigeria from the time she was seven years old. knew a great deal about different cultures around the world and was able to travel even at a very young age. After attending boarding schools during seven years of London the family moved to Toronto Canada where she lived for much of her early years and early adulthood. Contractor was a wonderful student in Toronto and was trained to be the classical ballet dancer. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts. This is a specialized high school that teaches arts where she did not only take classes in theater but also performed too. Contractor started acting at the age of 16 after completing a total of 10 years of dance. When she graduated from high school, Contractor received a scholarship from The University of Toronto to pursue a dual major in psychology and sociology. In addition, she obtained a master's degree in Theater. After a single semester at the University, Contractor went to an open call audition for the play Pericles at the prestigious famous, world-class Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the lead role. The play received rave reviews and her performances during the 92 performances that the play was voted the production of the year by Canadian reviewers in 2002. The actor was invited to join Stratford's conservatory course, in which only eight males and four women are accepted for a course lasting 20 weeks in classical theatre, which she was eager to take. Contractor got a place in the next season of plays and landed the part as Hermia as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
